United Airlines Hemispheres In-Flight Magazine (June 2003)
Wall Street Journal Article (April 7, 2000)
A panel of sleep experts rated treatments for jet lag using
the following scale:
- 4 stars - closest to a cure;
- 3 stars - viable treatment;
- 2 stars - some therapeutic benefits;
- 1 star - helpful to some fliers, but experts are skeptical
Two of the highest ratings went to treatments that are incorporated
in StopJetLag.
Correctly timed Bright Light Switching rated 3-1/2 stars (closest
to a cure). StopJetLag provides
the correct timing for bright light switching.
Correctly timed Melatonin Supplements rated 3 stars (viable
treatment). StopJetLag provides
the correct timing for melatonin supplements based on Dr. Alfred Lewy's
scientific research.

"StopJetLag mapped out the perfect plan for me when
I went to Australia. It was a combination of light, food, melatonin,
and exercise. The Plan told me exactly when to set my watch to Australia
time. I couldn't have survived this trip without StopJetLag.
It saved my life!!! I was bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Everyone else
whined and slept on the bus all day."

Jet Lag Cures
"For many travelers, the real turbulence begins after a flight.
Crossing time zones disrupts your body clock and can lead to sleepy
days, sleepless nights, and malaise. But scientists are learning why
plane travel throws your body into a tailspin and how to prevent jet
lag. How to fight jet lag?"
The StopJetLag Personalized Plan
How it works:
Using information about you and your flight schedule, StopJetLag tailors
instructions so you can time light exposure and melatonin intake. Included are tips
for a schedule and meals.
What the Experts Say:
"Promising. As scientists learn more about the body clock, they hope to
publish research that will let you look up a trip and get directions to
avoid jet lag. Meanwhile, StopJetLag does something similar
for a $25 fee."

Steve Fowler, 41, is president of The Licensing Shop, Inc. For the past 16 years
he has flown up to 200,000 kilometres a year between Europe, Asia and
the US - the most extreme time zone changes. He has always suffered badly from jet lag.

Steve Fowler
At 190 cm tall, Fowler finds it difficult to sleep on planes, so the effects of travel
are always compounded. "I tried sleeping pills, Bloody Marys, sleep deprivation and
herbal remedies, but nothing worked," he says. "I suffered flu-like symptoms, constant
fatigue and started seriously questioning my ability to travel any more."
For Fowler, the answer came through a computer program. It was probably
only a matter of time before the whole business of jet lag was taken
over by a piece of software, but there is plenty of evidence that travellers
have benefited from this technology.
Fowler uses the StopJetLag Plan, devised by StopJetLag
Travel Service. You supply a range of details, including sleep patterns
and your full travel itinerary, and the program creates an individually
tailored plan for your trip. It defines when you should switch to the
destination time-zone and how to adapt sleep and activity cycles, meal
schedules and bright-light exposure to help your body adjust to the
time changes both physically and psychologically.

"On my arrival day in London, I functioned almost normally, working
and talking to people. The next morning, I awoke at 8:30 a.m., completely
rested, and the truly remarkable part of the StopJetLag
system came into play. For the rest of my 12-day trip to England and
Scotland, I felt no symptoms of jet lag whatever. It was as though I
had always lived on Greenwich Mean Time.
On my way home, my experience was almost exactly the opposite. I didn't
follow the StopJetLag regimen, because I forgot to bring
the instructions. And I assumed that a westbound transatlantic fight,
completely in daylight, would produce fewer jet-lag symptoms than an
eastbound trip.
That assumption was a big mistake. For three days after returning
home, my sleep-wake cycle was abnormal, forcing me to bed earlier than
usual, and I suffered fatigue at various times of day."

Arthur Frommer, The Almanac of Travel
"I think it's a stunning development... A remarkable new approach for
overcoming jet lag when you travel by using a computer to map out your
daily routines."
Northwest Airlines World Traveler Magazine
Bruce Fritch, president of Fritch Consulting, has used StopJetLag
many times, including when he had to conduct two group meetings and
five one-on-one interviews after traveling 32 hours from India to North
Carolina. He says, "If it hadn't been for the StopJetLag
system, there's no way I could have done it."

Staying Sharp When Crossing Time Zones
"And it (StopJetLag) really works. On a recent trip from
Los Angeles to Zurich, my family and I suffered absolutely no fuzzyheadedness,
no inability to concentrate, not even very much fatigue. None of the
anti-jet lag regimen (obtained from StopJetLag Travel
Services) interfered with our normal sleep, or ability to do useful
work, or our enjoyment along the way. This experience contrasts sharply
with a similar trip last year, after which we spent four days feeling
sluggish."
